You are contemplating a divorce, and you have children; how is child support determined in Connecticut?
In Connecticut, child support is calculated as a percentage of a non-custodial parent’s net weekly income. Connecticut, like most states, has child support guidelines that calculate the appropriate level of support and are mandatory. You can deviate from those guidelines, but the criteria for deviation are very specific, and if you are planning on deviating from those guidelines, the Court must make a specific finding on the record as to the reason for the deviation.
If you and your spouse are W-2 earners, the computation is relatively easy. If one party is self-employed, then that becomes tricky.
